Confirmation Class

Confirmation is the final step in becoming a full member of Christ’s Holy Church and of the local church. The act of confirmation allows a young person to accept Jesus Christ for themselves, thus fulfilling (or confirming) the vows made by their parents or guardians at their baptism. Those who have not been baptized before the class receive baptism on Confirmation Sunday in June.

Through the confirmation class, candidates for membership in the church receive instruction in the basic beliefs of the Christian faith. Topics covered include the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible), the New Testament and United Methodist History and Doctrine.

This year’s confirmation class begins on March 6. We will meet every Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for 12 weeks of classroom work. Two field trips are planned: one to Lovely Lane UMC in Baltimore, considered the “Mother Church” of American Methodism, and to the Robert Strawbridge Shrine, which preserves the legacy of the first Methodist circuit rider in the American Colonies, near New Windsor, MD.

The Confirmation service, which recognizes the completion of the course, takes place on Pentecost, Sunday, June 9, 2019. This is a joy-filled service where the candidates are welcomed into full membership in the church.
